Common questions about our services.
Homes in Galt's historic core were built from the 1820s through the early twentieth century, and many have clay tile lateral lines that are now 80–100 years old. Clay tile joints shift and crack over time, allowing both root intrusion from mature trees and soil ingress. Scale accumulation inside cast-iron stack drains in mid-century properties adds to the problem. These systems were not designed for indefinite service without maintenance.
Properties close to the Grand River can experience elevated groundwater levels, particularly during spring snowmelt and after significant rainfall. This groundwater can infiltrate through cracked clay laterals and failed pipe joints, adding volume to the drainage system and contributing to slow drains or wet-weather backups. A camera inspection can identify where infiltration is occurring.
Cambridge was formed in 1973 by amalgamating Galt, Preston, and Hespeler, and each has a different construction era. Galt's core is the oldest, with clay and cast-iron drains from the late 1800s through the mid-1900s. Preston has substantial mid-twentieth-century residential development with mixed cast-iron and early plastic drain lines. Hespeler and newer Cambridge subdivisions have PVC throughout. The pipe material you have depends largely on the age and location of your property.
Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the inside walls of drain pipes, removing accumulated grease, scale, biofilm, and debris. It is more thorough than snaking alone and is often appropriate for older clay or cast-iron lines with significant buildup. We assess whether a given pipe is in sufficient condition to tolerate the pressure before recommending it.
Cambridge is in our extended service area. We do service Cambridge, but scheduling and travel time may differ from our core GTA coverage. Contact us with your situation and we will be straightforward about availability and timing.
Call (249) 733-7907 or use the contact form at mechoragroup.com/contact/. Describe the symptoms you're experiencing — which drains are slow, whether there's any odour or backflow, and the approximate age of the home if you know it. We will follow up to discuss scope and provide a written estimate before work begins.
